I agree with the previous reviewer. This place has improved beyond recognition under new management. Finally Wadhurst has an eating house to be proud of. The menu has a good range, from pricey to great value and truely some interesting dishes. I had a simple winter salad with smoked duck. Delicious! My partner had the lingunie with home made meat balls. Warming and tasty. What a transformation. I will never pass this place again without wanting to stop for a bite. Congratulations to the chef!

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT thank god!!!!! The food is amazing not the normal pub food but the quality and the price is briliant. The service is fantastic and the wine is specially listed from internal wine expert. Try the tapas and the Fillet staek its is fantastic, Prawns in garlic sauce, chorizo in red wine, One of the best meals Ive had in a long time.... Thank you for changing hands!!!!

Like the comment letter I have just read, but wished I had read it before our visit, I had not been to the OLd Vine for some years. I had staying with me four Americans - who wished to go to a very old pub for a meal. We went to the the pub on a Saturday and was surprised to find only two tables occupied. HOwever, we ordered what was to be the most disappointing meal - school dinners would have been better. The publican was not interested or cared if we were even there!!! The only redemming feature was the delightful little waitress. I was so ashamed to have taken my guests there.

What a disappointment----we revisited after several years having moved away from the area. The standards had not so much slipped as slumped---Fawlty Towers without the laughs. We wondered why the place was half empty on the penultimate Saturday before Xmas--enlightenment followed quite swiftly. With the exception of one charming waitress who we remembered from years ago, the service was sloppy and slow. We had to go and ask for the wine list and when our choice finally arrived it was banged down onto the table without ceremony--and the waiter scooted off, presumably back to his noisy colleagues round the corner. Fortunately the wine was OK. The food was over priced and boring---in particular the goats cheese risotto which was drowned in sauce and I suspect could have been purchased at any supermarket for a fraction of the price by people who have no taste buds. Having left most of this, we then asked for our leftovers to be parceled up to take home to the dogs---with a rapidity that was out of character with the rest of the evening the manager appeared and told us that he would be breaking health and safety rules---he then mentioned that the restaurant had been in trouble with accusations of food poisoning! Figuring that if we were going to die the dogs might as well go with us, we insisted on the doggy bag---a)we hate waste, and b)we'd paid for the food anyway so how dare he?! Also I considered it a load of officious nonsense. As you can tell, we won't be going back.
