We went here on my birthday hoping for a nice pint and a meal as the village was so beautiful and the pub idyllic on the outside. However we walked into a virtually empty bar where there were two female members of staff'serving'- neither of who smiled or greeted us, or said, ' I'l be with you in a minute'as is the usual polite thing to do.
One group of people were having a meal outside- they were hardly rushed off their feet. We waited ten minutes at the bar to be served and were totally ignored, even though one of the women was standing there polishing cutlery and practically facing us. The other had disappeared altogether.
We were absolutely disgusted by this treatment and went to the excellent White Dog in Ewhurst instead where we got impeccable, prompt service, even though they were far busier than the previous pub. We'd never go to the Salehurst Halt again and would not recommend this place to anyone.

I wish more pubs were like this. Salehurst Halt is a small pub in a village near Bodiam Castle. We arrived late on a Sunday for lunch, and a good sign was that the place was pretty full. Despite us having a pram and a screaming hungry baby with us the owners were completely hospitable and looked after us really well. Add friendly locals, a good selection of real ales and probably the best roast beef i've had makes this place a hidden gem. Highly recommended.
