The Sarsen Trail is a fantastic excuse to explore the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. Personally I enjoy walking in the area at any time, but it's great fun to share the experience with load of others. I think this year I might even wear fancy dress of some description!

Sorry to hear Sally Barnett's experience of last year where a runner barged her out of the way - that is simple rudeness from the individual & he should be ashamed. Unfortunately the runners can't start before the walkers as suggested as that would need the runners to set off from Avebury around 6 in the morning. I have run this route once (& walked it 16 times), and in support of the runners would ask people to be aware of them & please make room for them to pass - they are a lot tireder than you and they also have paid their fee to run this route. I can strongly recommend this walk - its a great family or friends day out. If new to walking, or a bit nervous, then sign up for half of the route only - there's nothing to be ashamed of in walking 11 miles!

I had a nasty encounter whilst doing the sarsen trail last year. It was the second time i did the complete 26.1 walk. Last year, a runner thumped me in the side when he passed me, I can only assume to push me out of his way as I was in his way. It sent me toppling. I called out to him but he did not stop. I found this very upsetting. Surely all walkers have the same right as runners on this charity route. Unfortunately I will not be doing this walk again. This seriously needs looking into. Why can't the runners start a lot earlier than the walkers. That way nobody will be in anybodies way. Then I would happily do the walk again. Regards.
