What a perfect hotel for a relaxing Christmas break. Having just returned from a wonderful 4 days at the Hougue du Pommier hotel, we felt I must write to praise this warm and welcoming hotel. From the moment we booked in, the welcome was friendly and festive, with sherry and mince pies in the bar. The hotel entrance and gardens were tastefully and festively decorated throughout, the food was par excellence, nothing was too much trouble. The first room we had was spacious and perfectly acceptable, but I had failed to specify a bath rather than a shower. Malcom, the charming manager, showed us another room with a bath within a few minutes. Other rooms and suites are even more spacious a beautifully furnished. Rooms are being refurbished and digital TVs being installed in those remaining without. The chef had won Best Chef on the Island, and this was borne out by the mouthwatering and innovative menus. This hotel has been under new management since April 2009, and now deserves first class publicity and recommendations from what we experienced. The staff are almost entirely from other countries, and so professional, polite and obliging. Whether it was Champagne and Bucks Fizz, the Guernsey Brass Band playing carols, a dance band, a wine tasting, Father Christmas and his elf and a sack of presents with something for everyone (and what good presents they were!)the whole 4 day break was a delight. We had free car hire and flights to and from UK were on time and hassle free. One thing we would beg them to improve was the bedside lighting - it was difficult to read in bed because of the very low wattage of the bedside lamps - a number of us met daily in the airy light conservatory to read the papers as it was the only place. I read my paper in the well lit bathroom!Otherwise they have got it all right. I hope we can go back in summer. Thank you all.

My wife and myself have just spent a most enjoyable week at this hotel. Previous reviews we have have read were shocking ,but having just spent the last six days at the hotel ,we must advise all that previous comments made do now not apply. The attention from all concerned was at all times excellent. The new management who have been operating for 4 weeks are setting high standards both in the kichen ,grounds, and training of staff. I am very confident that these new levels of quality will remain and can reccommend all to this very good hotel.
