We arrived at 6pm, as we wanted to drink a pint of the real ale the Royal Oak has on its bar. Dinners start at 6.30pm, so we had time to relax. We had a look at the chefs specials, and decided on the fresh trout. Half an hour later our table was ready. The local Rutland trout was huge, and the vegetables were excellent.
We decided to have a desert, and went for the home made cheesecake and apple pie with cinnamon and custard. The cheesecake was exceptional, with a very nice sauce, and whipped cream. The apple pie was very good and we had absolutely no complaints at all.
All in all we had a very enjoyable, relaxing meal.
The pub itself has a very homely feel to it, with leather seats in the bar, both new and old decor mingled together, that sets the pub off perfectly. Outside are rolling fields, and sheep, and a stream running through. Im sure in the summer it will be lovely to sit outside and enjoy the scenery.
