We went for a reunion night last night and having had this recommended we looked forward to our night. On arriving the entrance was rather surprising dressed up as a beach. Through the long bar and ushered into the dining room past a rather dingy looking toilet which was open . We arived into a room which at best could only be discribed as an working mens snug. No gleaming white tablecloths as seen in the advert.. No sign of the cosy fire. The picture were not attached to the wall and the tables were dressed with imitation dingy letherette covers. The waitress announced the specials were on the board but with great joy her first special was....mince and tatties. The menu was plain and definately not as protrayed on their site. Feeling overdressed and discouraged we finished our drink and left...Not even the surprise that a gin and lemonade was one pound could have made us stay.

The staff in the Ship Tavern are the friendliest I have ever come across. The manager is confidently welcoming. The food is the best I have ever come across in a pub at the best prices I have ever come across. I had beef on one occasion and it was very definitely the best beef I have ever tasted. I enquired about the cook/chef and discovered he is a Stakis trained time served chef, which is an unusually high standard for a pub. I just keep going back for more and have hired the entire restaurant for functions.
