Good Points: Error with booking - staff managed to rearrange rooms to get us a family room, which was excellent service. Lovely hotel and rooms. Food was excellent.
Bad Points: Error with booking - I booked a family of four and found the night before we left that it had only gone across as 2 adults. They asked if we wanted a paper in the morning but didn't tell us they would charge us extra for it. Service in dining room was fairly slow and poor.

Plonked on a pew like seat just off the bar and right next to the main entrance was not an auspicious start. The starter of scallops (£6) produced (after an extensive search of the plate) 3 the size of a 50p piece - barely a mouthful. The accompanying sauce was sort hot and spicy that I was unable to taste anything else for a couple of minutes afterwards. Main course was pan seared duck - actually totally raw and hardly warm. It was totally inedible. The potatoes were hot, but, like the vegetables and duck, virtually raw. I left most of the meal (and it wasn't cheap!. That said my partner's salmon starter and chicken breast main course were acceptable. None of the portions were very large. The bill was though. The ambience was not good. The smoke from the bar kept wafting over along with the drafts from the door. The seating was uncomfortable and the service just about average. I was assured that the manager, who was not available, would ring me back to listen to my remarks. Two weeks later and I am still waiting. Anybody thinking of eating here I would suggest the Anchor in Walberswick. Much better food, more of it and cheaper!

Booked at last minute and they fitted us in on a busy night. Although described as home cooked style, it is better than that. Grilled sardines Portuguese style were very tasty but not as you would see on the Algarve. My loin of minted lamb was very good and I was advised in advance that it would be very pink - it was. My wife's tomato risotto was excellent. We shared an excellent rhubarb crumble. The price and service were both very good.
