I am never a fan of writing reviews however believe the one before differs from my families reaction.
My wife, son, his partner and I decided to pop to Boscastle after hearing about the flood on the Seaside Parish TV series. It is nice to see that the village is still presented as lovely as it was before with many people enjoying the atmosphere Boscastle has to offer.
After enjoying a casual stroll we headed back stopping off at The Riverside where they offer one of the best seating areas alongside the river. We thoroughly enjoyed some crab open sandwiches – so filling we were unable to fit in the traditional cream tea. However we believed that the following night would be a perfect time to take pleasure in an evening meal. Good portions, clearly evident they pride themselves in quality along with excellent service. This was backed up by some good quality real ales in the Cobweb Inn a few yards up the road.

My wife & I arrived in Boscastle with another couple to stay at a guest house (not the Riverside) for the weekend. It was about 4pm and we were looking for a nice place to have dinner later in the evening. We were also keen to experience a cream tea (mainly so we could tell our grown up children back home we'd already had one!)and so went into the Riverside. They were laying up for dinner but seemed happy enough to accept a tea order until, that is, we asked for two cream teas between the four of us, since of course we would be eating again in only 2-3 hours. The reaction was sniffy, it was clear that they wanted more and they only complied with evident bad grace. The tea tray was dumped on the outside table that we had chosen - nothing was unloaded and set out and all in all we were made to feel quite unwelcome.
It was not a good introduction to the village I have to say. Needless to say we did not go back there for dinner on ANY of our days in the village.
The Napolean Inn (top of village) on the other hand is very friendly, keen to accommodate all requests, has very nice food - super choice of ales from the barrel and good service. Excellent in fact.
