Ive been to darcys twice now, both for special occasions because it is a bit pricy, and both times it has been dissapointing. Last time was for my birthday, we booked for 7.30 since it was a sunday and we had work in the morning , but due to the excruciatingly slow sevice we ended up being the last to leave, at about 10.30 There were three of us eating, we had two starters, one was very nice but my grilled halloumi with caramalised pear was very dissapointing, the pear was very hard and not very caramelised, and the grilled halloumi didn't look like it had been anywhere near a grill, it was as aneamic as if it had been taken straight out of the packet and placed on the plate, warmed up a bit on the way. I mentioned that it all seemed undercooked and they were very nice about getting me a replacement and not charging me for it. However the replacement was almost exactly the same except slightly hotter. The mains were good, all very well presented. My daughter had the kangaroo which she enjoyed, but one of the peices was very underdone which was dissapointing because she did like it and it was a quarter of the portion of her meal. we decided against mentioning it this time, after the experience of the first course, and time was getting on by now. coffees and the one dessert we had were good. I don't feel i will be going back there anytime soon. Darcy's is one of the most expensive restaurant s in St albans. Maybe we expected to much, but i think the food and service could have been much better for the prices we paid.
