Its a couple of years since I was last there and had recommended it to my colleagues for our Christmas lunch on past experience. Oh dear!! Dry turkey, roast potatoes so salty I couldn't eat them and the whole platter looked as if it had been sat waiting for us to arrive. The waitress brought the food out to us quicker than we could eat it, as if she just wanted us to eat up and get out even though the place was virtually empty (to be fair to her she was manning the bar downstairs as well!!) We asked for a little rest between main course and dessert only to be told 'chef has already got it ready'. It was then brought to us a few minutes later even though we had not said we were ready for it. The bill was also just plonked on the table while we were still drinking our coffee. A local shopkeeper delivered 3 tins of Batchelors mushy peas to the serving pass, I can't impagine what meal they were for!! Having recommended The Gallows to friends for years I would certainly not be able to recommend it again on this experience. Its such a shame that a once fine restaurant could slide so badly.

One of Scunthorpe's quality restaurants, food and service are of a high standard yet affordable prices. All food cooked from fresh and it's certainly worth waiting for. A very pleasant experience and I have never had a dissapointing meal yet, you feel like you have had a good treat when you have been.

We have been to the Gallows a few times and have never been disappointed however our recent visit 13-01-11 was not as good. The starters were nothing special and expensive for the 3 cod cheeks and salad. All the mains and veg were good verging excellent. The sweets were limited and nothing special. Overall the service was poor, not the usual Head waiter/managers standard. Felt we could have gone else where for a better meal with the £100 we spent. Very disaapointed. Will not be going back.

I visited the Gallows today with three colleagues at lunchtime. The meal and service was excellent. The choice of the meals was varied and thet were very well presented and very appertising. We had a 4 course lunch with soft drinks(we were driving) and the final bill was very reasonable for the excellent food we had been served. We will be visiting it again. The restaurant was very busy so it would be advisable to book in advance.

I booked this restaurant for my sons birthday on the 20-8-10 and we where a party of 8 on the top table had a fantastic evening, the food was excellent as was the service and i have recommended the venue to many others, now it is with regret that my visit last night with a party of 5 there was a member of the waiting staff that had not been there on my previous visit and it has to be said that with his hostile unwelcoming approuch we would never of been back,a shame,he let an otherwise very pleasant restaurant down.He in his position of either head waiter or front of house manager can do little for the future of The Gallows,he upset all my guests,as i say such a shame.

I have visited this restaurant on three separate occasions. The first was with a friend at lunchtime several years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the service was excellent and the surroundidngs very pleasant. However, on that occasion we were slightly disappointed that there were no desserts on offer at lunchtime.
The seond occasion was in January, 2008 with a group of 8 ladies. We cook for the senior citizens at our local church but on this occasion the Gallows did the cooking for us. We sat at the round table in the window which was excellent as we were all able to see one another and converse easily. Although we had all chosen different menus (our choices were past on prior to our visit) the meals all arrived in good time and once more were thoroughly enjoyable. Everyone enjoyed the experience so much that we intend to book this venue for our meal again in January 2009.
Because of my two previous visits being so successful, my family and I took my husband there to celebrate his 60th birthday. The staff were more that willing to help decorate the window area for us, and went out of their way to make the occasion special. The choice of menu is varied and interesting. Although perhaps a little bit more expensive than the run of the mill restaurants, the additional expense is worth it as the choice of food is different.
I don't think I would like to go to this restaurant with a very big party of say 20 or more, as it is a long narrow restaurant and we would probably end up on a long table. Perhaps it is just my opinion, but I don't like long tables as you never seem to speak to the folks sitting at the other end of the table.
For an intimate meal for two in an evening or for a small party - BRILLIANT. No hesitation in recommending the Gallows Restaurant.

We were most impressed with the meal and the atmosphere of the place. Its good to see that places like this restaurant are cropping up in the most unusual areas. The service was great, we were well looked after and it made my wifes birthday celebration great.
Thank you to the owners.
