Over Priced and Over Cooked! Having visited this restaurant a couple of years ago and enjoyed a pleasant dining experience, I decided to return to this fish restaurant with my wife for her birthday. I ordered the Baked Monkfish stuffed with prawns and anchovies with a brandy mayonnaise and my wife the sea bass, salmon and lobster medley with lobster sauce. As you'll agree both dishes sound absolutely mouth watering. When the dishes arrived, the monkfish was drowned in an overpowerful mayo (in which by the way I could taste no brandy). The fish was overcooked and dryer than the sahara, my wifes dish suffered the same fate. We followed this with dessert, I ordered crepes suzette and my wife strawberries and cream. The crepe was, I'll admit passable, whilst on the small side, while my wife was presented with a small bowl of approximately 10 small strawberrys cut in half with a bit of cream splashed on, and they charged £4.95 for the pleasure! I cannot help but feel ripped off by our trip to the old forge. The final bill, including drinks (but please bear in mind we drank non alcoholic) came to over £50!! A complete rip off considering I can cook an infinately better meal at home. We will not be returning to the old forge, there are a lot better and more reasonably priced restaurants within the area.
