We went to the Retreat Italian last week. It is local to us and we went to try it as it has just been taken over. I have to say it was the best night we have had for ages. the food is italian style and rivalled anything we have had in the pastincluding on our italian hilidays! My wife ordered the meat antipasti starter and i had the home made duck pate. both were generous portions and delicious. For main course my wife had crab linguini and i had the lamb stincotto. Again fabulous. Portions were generous and the whole night was very good value for money. We will definitely be going back again and would recommend it to all.

This was our second visit to the bistro, we found new owners and a new menu. The owners were welcoming, caring and very funny. There attitude towards this been our night was greatly appriciated, we were never rushed and they really took care of me and the wife!
starter - we both had the ducks pate with ciabatta bread and caramalised onions - if the truth be known a really big plate of this would have been great, although i am not sure how the chef would have took this! excellent, portion size perfect.
main - I had the scottish steak including haggis and my wife had the halibut. Both were extremely well presented on square dish type plates allowing for very generous portions, excellent amount of vegetables, the serving staff were very attentive to our needs, but not over bearing.
After talking to my wife i came to the conclusion that i had probably eaten the best meal i have ever had, outside of my wifes cooking obviously!
I cannot recommend the bistro enough, great owners and staff, helpful, attentive, cracking new menu with a chef who can obviously deliver - service did not drop as the bistro filled!.
Please help them make a go of this, visit them, you need to book BUT you will not be disapointed.
Spencer and Kirstie Lowe.
