went for a meal with friends for my 18th, my boyfriend with I'd and who is 18 was refused an alcholic drink because he was born in a year in which people were still 17 this year although he was eighteen! Finally they came to give him a drink after around 30 mins! Service was poor and even though reminded on the phone of 18th birthday Mex did not provide any extras that were promised had to ask and ask again! We were also charged for an extra bottle of wine on our recipet which took much negociation for them finally to reliase we had not had it. Finally there were a group of girls we recongised whom are 2 yrs younger, they were given shots and alcholic beverages an were not challenged to provide id. I believe this was because one of the girls relatives worked there! Is this discrimination really acceptable from Mex, not going again!!!! Would not recommend the resturant generally to anyone as staff, service is poor. The food is good but very expensive! Not worth it if you ask me!

Under new management and the staff make you feel really welcome, was quite quiet as we went at 6pm but they deserve to be really busy would definately go again.

After visiting mex cantina last night for my brother in laws birthday i can ensure i will not be going back we booked a birthday party with a total of twenty guests we all ordered our food it took an 1 hour 20 mins to arrive when it finally arrived 6 dishes were sent back as they were cold my 6 year old son bit into his burger and said it tasted funny when i looked inside the burger was completely raw in the middle and was dripping with raw meat juices we were still waiting another 20 mins for more food to arrive when my husband recieved his steak it was a further 20 mins before the sauce arrived Hence to say we had quite enough complained to the mananger refused to pay and walked out without paying it was absolutely disguisting the way the food was cooked and how dare they put my 6 year old son's health at risk by serving him a raw burger i advice you not to that visit that restarant, asi certainly will not be and neither will the rest of the party.

Have been a regular visitor to Mex over the years and have always enjoyed it, last nights visit will not be repeated. Everyting was awful, a new menu which leaves hardly any choice for vegetarians. two sharing platters which had a measley amount of food on. My main was just pureed advocado and beans in pastry, had no taste whatsoever, and was without sour cream. It was topped with salsa that was very odd tasting. The service was about the onl;y thing that was ok, I will not be revisiting mex which is a shame as previously was a favourite restarant of mine. Oh and way way over priced.

Mex used to be great, legendary even. But ever since it moved from the upstairs room of the neraby bar of the same name, it has gone steadily downhill. I have eaten there regularly for the last 10 year, and I have witnessed the decline. But after last night, I will never return. The once reasonably priced cocktails are now stupidly expensive, and that's if the bar has the ingredients to make them. Last night, after ordering three cocktails from the menu, only to be told that they did not have this or that ingredient, I switched to Beer. They did not have any of the bottled beers I wanted (again selected from the menu), and they did not have my first three choices of draught beer. A Joke.
The food which used to be prepared on the premises, was bland, and much of it seemed pre-prepard and microwaved. My friend's chicken fajitas were predominantly peppers, with almost no chicken.
Mex thrives on its happy hour, and through the week, it gets quiet soon after this finishes at 19:00. But they seem to have inflated their prices to accomodate for the discount they give, so even with a 50% discount, our meals were not cheap.
Wakefield has precious few decent places to eat, and Mex made its name by being one of the few. It doesn't deserve that reputation any longer. It's a shame.

Cantina is a great place to dine out !!
A platter for four (£12) came with 3 chicken skewers, 3 pieces of garlic bread and 3 potato skins and a bit of side salad presumably for our fourth person. Needless to say it was soon sent back.
The main courses were no better and to add insult to injury, the bill was way wrong charging for non-existent drinks. They even tried to getaway with a whopping service charge. What a joke!!
Wakefield is short of decent places to eat, but I’d rather starve then go back here.

One of the best restaurants in the area for value and atmosphere. my family and I regularly visit for the early bird menu and also the full price and only have praise for the staff, service and food. staff are always pleasant and only too happy to help with any queries or requests. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

the food at tex mex is gorgeous. the service is fantasic and the waiters/waitresses can not do enough for you. you can see the chefs at work. on top of the fantastic food, drink and service the price is great too. the portion sizes are large and great value for money. the also have early bird offers (50% off all starters and main courses monday - friday 5pm-7pm, 25% off on saturdays 5pm-7pm and 50% off on sundays 12pm-5pm). i highly recommend you have a visit to tex mex. a great taste of mexican cuisine!

This place used to be the best for portions and atmosphere and good value but the most recent visits have left me very disappointed.
The portions have severely reduced. The atmosphere and routine of celebrations are still the same which has over time become boring.
The staff are vacant and somewhat not interested.
Think it needs some intervention otherwise it will go down the pan.

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had.
Service was unbelievably slow. The quality of food was worse - I had to hunt underneath the dried up burger to find a few tiny pieces of bacon hidden in the "bacon and Cheeseburger", the chicken and prawn content of the Jambalaya was similarly well hidden.
Overall, value for money was very poor.
On a plus note, they did accept that it was poor, and did not attempt to charge a service charge, and did not charge for drinks, although I would rather have had a decent meal with decent service and would then have happily paid the service charge.
