i took my son michael and my wife for a meal at the balgarth for sunday lunch.
my wife and i had the roast beef and my son had chicken nuggets.
the roast beef was delicious and the nuggets were surprisingly came as two small battered chicken fillets which was a good portion and very tasty! the facilities for children are fantastic and i managed to enjoy my coffee in peace while my son was on the trampoline!
service was really good and the staff were very friendly. a real log fire was burning which created a nice atmosphere. the background music was pretty good and i will return for dinner at some point soon.
overall 9/10

Felt i had to pipe up after reading the last (poorly spelt) review, go almost every week for the fantastic steak night. Always good service and the meals are amazing! Nothing beats having your steak cooked right in front of you by the owner himself, not many places now a days can you see the the person who runs the place, let alone have the guy cooking your meal! The kind of place that doonfoot has waited long for.

Recommended by a friend,so asked my mother and father along,as they are getting on a bit now.My father enjoys most foods.
From the outset, yes the decor was done to a great standard.Exquisite, but still a bit dark.Service was utterly deplorable.Waited 10 minutes before asked for a drink, plus another 10 minutes before they arrived.Someone eventualy arrived to take our order.I was the only one having a starter, thought they'd forgot as we waited over 15 minutes to finally arrive.Marks out of 10 for the starter 6.OK but still too greasy. But we had to wait about another 12 minutes before they took away the starter, then a further 25(YES25) minutes before the main course finaly arrived. My wife had sea bass, but potatoes were cold.My father had steak pie,but veggies were uncooked.I had a burger, but only got 14 chips(must have been running out),but we all felt for my mum as she loves macaroni cheese, and at £9.95,we were expecting a lovely tastefull plate, but as the rest had been 2 steps from disaster, they didn't dissapoint. Was absolutely awful to give it a discription basicaly just cooked pasta, with grated cheese flung on top.No sauce,no taste and a macaroni cheese from Iceland at a £1.00 would taste better.IF ANYONE WANTS TO GO,BE PREPARED FOR A LONG WAIT(TAKE A BOOK) NOT FUSSY IF ITS COOKED OR NOT,EVEN IF ITS COLD,IF YOUR ON A DIET BY ALL MEANS TRY THE MACARONI CHEESE,WOULD PUT YOU OFF YOUR FOOD FOR GOOD.
Usually we leave a 10% tip,but in this case they should have tipped us.We had a meal at Scotts in Troon the previous week, and paid a measly £5.00 more, who got a vote by us all of 10 out of 10,BUT THE BALGARTH,I Wouldn't even give them 1 out of 10. Plenty of good eating places in Ayr,avoid this with the plague.

Just had lunch with my husband and 2 kids aged 10 & 13. Menu choice excellent. Food superb. Excellent value. Lovely decor and surroundings and even my 13 year old played outside in the well equipped childrens play area. Will return very soon.

Whatever you do - do not go here for a meal! The food is terrible - the chips are frozen and tasteless and the fish is so full of bones that you cant eat it.
Very disappointing and not cheap for the rubbish you are served.
i would recommend you eat elsewhere
