i booked a room for one night, they said they would give me a family room for the sum of £40.00, as soon as i arrived the manager requested that i pay the £40,00. i was handed the key and the handset for the TV in the room. (i only wish i had insisted on viewing the room etc. before i handed any money over) I would have left immediately. Other than the TV, everything was dated, and in dire need of decorating and upgrading. The room was tatty, The floor covering in the bathroom was simply disgusting,I complained to the manager about this and he simply mumbled something about "having to see to it" the cold water mixer tap on the bath could only be turned using a fair degree of strength. no bathmat was supplied, the two small towels looked as though they came from some destitute source. The light above the bathroom mirror did not work, and there was a standard lamp in the room with a shade that was not fixed, had holes in it, and should be consigned to the bin. I had not the heart to even attempt the breakfast, after seeing a chef from my window in his whites, smoking away in the beer garden, and I left as soon as i could on the Sunday. This hotel states that it has "the highest standards of accomodation" Not in my experience, "i most certainly will not be back" Billy McWatters -Hawick, Scotland

If you want the old, bare necessities, climbing up to the 2nd floor carrying your own luggage, curtains with rotted lining, room so small you could only sit on the bed, this place is for you! The downstairs pub didn't open until 11:00PM, and on this particular night, we were told not to park in the carpark next to the hotel because there was some sort of celebration and there would be about 2000 people outside our window! That particular claim didn't come to fruition, but I totally felt like an "intruder" instead of a guest! We had planned to stay 2 nights, but left after one! Actually, after we were told about the "celebration" we tried to find other accomodations, but it was too late!
