The BAR / PUB food only. Had heard that The Turks Head had a good reputation. Did we go on an 'off' day? We arrived early, at 6pm. Car park was nearly full. We ordered Fish and Chicken with chips. STARTER: Garlic Bread: French stick. Toasted. However, apart from the edges, which were burnt, the body of the stick was very rubbery and stretched as you attempted to bite and pull the rest away from your mouth. 1. THE F|SH: Small, thick batter deep fried within an inch of its life, it was very dark in colour being over fried. I suspect it was from a pack from a supermarket given its small and neat shape. There was a tiny 'slither' of white fish inside the thick manufactured batter. 2. CHICKEN: It tasted old, definitely from frozen and I suspect was boiled first before meeting the deep fat fryer. Rotten! 3: CHIPS: What can you say about frozen 'oven chips', tasteless. 4: SALAD with meal. This consisted of a tiny portion of shredded wet ice-burg lettuce, one quarter of a tomato and two slices of cucumber. On arrival, I was met at the bar by two people ensuring they finished their conversation first before looking at and talking to me. With 'have you booked?' out of the way (we had not admittedly) we were given the option of the dark corner of the bar (left as you enter) The decor was old, tired and dirty feeling. There was food from a previous meal on the radiator next to our table and it was cold (despite being warm outside) I know this reads as a moaning rant, but this is the first time I have ever felt compelled to review a place. £20 (ok it’s not the dearest of meals) on 2 meals that I can only describe were fit for a motorway service station from the 1970's. Utter rubbish
