I booked with a friend 2 into wing hall with our caravans over the august bank holiday. I really would not wish to go through the experience again!!! The entrance is fantastic......at the top of the drive however it is jammed with cars parked, then you need to go around a U-turn between trees and dustbins to get into the caravanning field, the field was CRAMMED full of tents and caravans, we wove our way through to the allocated spot, we had pre booked so knew the plot number. I then walked back to the farm shop to book in. On the way there I saw a poster on the fence stating that if you pitch up before booking in you will be "fined" by your fees being DOUBLED! This should have sounded alarm bells and I wish we had left then, but took it as though it was "tongue in cheek" and walked on. I paid for the pitch (2 nights in caravan with 4 adults & 2 kids - No electric or water hook-up in an uneven grass field) only £64! WOW! But it was BH weekend so everywhere is full. About an hour later an old woman in a Jeep 4x4 turned up and asked why we were there as "no caravans had booked in" we showed her our invoice and she rudely announced we had not paid enough! Apparently £64 for 2 nights should have been £72! What a bargain!! We had arrived at lunch time and continuously during the afternoon more and more tents and vans turned up. In the end you could hardly move, i cannot believe this was within the rules or planning regulations for this site. Thank god there was no need for an ambulance or if a fire had started. Now we come to the best bit, the showers and toilets, disgusting is not a strong enough word to use, in addition you have to queue for the privilege, I paid the 50p to use the shower and got a cold shower for my money! Even at 10 pm both gender toilets were still queuing to be used in the dark. In addition, to walk back and forth to the toilets and washing area you need to walk through fields with hens wandering about, a lovely site until you realise that the grass is covered in chicken excrement. We booked for 2 nights but left after one (as did many others judging by the emptying of the field) we begged the owners of a site nearby to squeeze us in and paid again to go there. That is how poor the place is!! Please believe me, you don’t want to go there, if you don’t believe me, try it at your peril. I shall be copying this to rutland coucil and all others i can find to listen.
