Peel Tower was built to commemorate one of Bury's most famous sons. Born in 1788, Sir Robert Peel was educated at Oxford and Harrow, and later became a Conservative Prime Minister. He is most famous for his work in introducing a modern police force. The tower is believed to have cost around £1,000 to build and was opened in 1852, shortly after the death of Sir Robert Peel in 1850 Look out for the flag flying if it is you can go up the tower and the views from the top are fantastic! The entry to the tower is £1.00 or £1.50
