We stopped for lunch here on the way to the North coast of Somerset, and were so impressed that we made a point of stopping on the way back, too! The food is excellent, the beer even better, and the value-for-money is an unexpected pleasure. I tried the sirloin steak - completely unadorned, as that is the real test of the quality of ingredients, and skill in the kitchen - and was not disappointed. One of the best meals, indeed one of the best dining experiences, I've ever had. Do give this place a try; the location is beautiful, and the staff very friendly and capable. N Keay

At first sight this venue would appear to be competing with many other pubs and small hotels in the cotswold area. Trouble is that this palce does not compete because it does not have to. It is uniqe. The owner and manager is a Paul Monyard. His father bought a small pub called "the compass" in the late 1960's and his son Paul took over the business about 20 years ago and has transformed a small country pub into a very well appointed hotel, but somehow he has mangaed to retain the "Village Pug " experience. You could not be better placed to explore England -I mean that, because so mant tourists never get to see our country outside of London If you are looking for a holiday in England, a weekend getaway, a business conference venue, or just a really good time ( the locals will insult you and steal your daughters) then this is the place to come. I should know- I have spent many a pleasant evening there over the last 30 years
