Was married here in 2003, have visited several times and this IS the best hotel for me in the world - why, atmosphere, people, scenery, golf course etc etc. the decor was alittle tired in one of the rooms I stayed in - that's the only slight negative comment I could make if I had to. Would recommend this hotel to anyone and will be going back hopefully soon.

Good Points: Our accommodations were immaculate and the breakfast was more than anyone could ask for. I only wish we could have stayed longer but we were trying to see as much of Ireland as we could see in the short amout of time we had. Ireland was everything I had dreamed it would be and more. Bad Points: I have nothing negative to say about the accommodations. General Review: We had a very positive experience at the Slieve Donard. The staff was very accommodating and the room was larger than most we stayed in during our stay in Ireland. The beds were extremely comfortable. The only suggestion I will make is there needs to be more signs directing someone to the hotel from the main roads. We arrived after dark and had some trouble locating the hotel. I'm sure if we had arrived during the day it would have been easier to locate. The map we used led us to believe you were further south of Newcastle. All in all it was an excellent stay and we would definitely stay again if we ever get the opportunity to return to Ireland.

I was totally disappointed by the Slieve Donard. I entrusted them to my wedding day, only to find they were completely incompetent. I had made arrangements, in advance, to have someone assist me with my gown on the morning of my wedding. (I am from the states, and my husband and I eloped in N.I. As a result, I didn't have any family or friends on hand to assist me with my preparations.) The day before my wedding, I confirmed with the desk that someone would be on hand to assist me with my gown. They confirmed someone would be available, yes, but they had no idea when. I was to be married at 9:30 a.m., and they couldn't tell me whether or not someone would be available then. They could confirm nothing. As a result, my husband had to assist me on the morning of my nuptials, which is precisely what I wanted to avoid (I didn't want him to see my prior to the wedding). They couldn't confirm staff availability, they couldn't provide us with blow dryers when our adaptors wouldn't work, they couldn't prepare a decent steak (the steak was as tough as shoe leather), and they couldn't even provide us with a standard, requisite, wake-up call! They couldn't even get that right! There was no wake-up call on the day of our departure. This is a "four-star" hotel folks, so think carefully before you book. A two-day stay, in this two-star, at best, accomodation, cost over $600, which I'm still researching to ensure I wasn't defrauded. They were the only hotel to bill me without the benefit of the conversion rate (how convenient). In summary, I'm just letting unsuspecting lodgers know what the locals know already (every local I spoke with said the hotel was terrible)...stay away!
