Readers of the other reviews should bear three things in mind: 1. You can't believe everything you read 2. Some people are only happy if they're complaining 3. You don't get five star hotels for guest house prices. My family had two rooms at the Gilson. Both were very clean; freshly decorated and comfortable. The furniture and fitting in one of the rooms was new: in the other old, marked - and perfectly serviceable. The shower dripped slightly; the toilet was a bit tricky to get flushed first time, and the washbasin was slow to empty. No complaints though - I got a two-star hotel for about the cost of parking a caravan overnight elsewhere. Above all the service was impeccable; the staff treated us like long-lost relatives, and the food was both excellent quality yet cheap. Definitely a budget hotel to stay at!
