Stayed here with a group of walkers. My room was clean, and spacious for a single. The food was excellent - well presented and nicely cooked. All in all had a lovely holiday in idealic surroundings. Would love to go back! Happy staff there also!

we have just returned from a coach break, good points-good food, friendly and helpful staff. bad points-mealtime organisation was hopeless.it took so long to serve breakfast that our coach was an hour late each morning for our excursions. i am not blaming the waiting staff, just the bad organisation. it seemed to me that all the staff had to be multi talented.sometimes in the dining room, sometimes in the bar, sometimes at the reception desk etc. our rooms were reasonable, but the en suite was a joke, with hardly any shelf space, and a shower so small that one could not feel comfortable.(i am glad that i am not particularly overweight). the bar prices were on the high side to say the least.(£7-£8 for two drinks) for anyone with walkig difficulties it would mean a taxi each way to get to the village. b.s.

This hotel looked fabulous, idyllic setting, perfect for my wedding, or so i thought.... I booked this hotel a year in advance for my wedding. My then fiancee and I went to see the hotel, had discussions, particularly with regards to food as we wanted our guests to have a combination of Indian and Western menu. This was discussed on day 1 with the hotel who said there were no problems in this regard. 5 months from us signing a contract to book the hotel and a number of rooms for our guest, i found myself hassling them as to what the arrangements were for the food. A number of emails later, I was told to go and see a chef at a local indian restaurant who would be doing the catering for the indian menu. We travelled 100 miles each time and went and saw the chef and ordered the Indian food. Another month later and many emails, i then had an email back saying they were now unable to provide Indian food as their kitchen was not equipped to deal with it and asked us to reconsider alternative options. We told them our specific requirements and they assured us that this was something they could clearly deliver! Since we booked this hotel on the basis that this was our requirement, i was not prepared to move on food. They then said they could hire a mobile kitchen which would add an extra £1000 to our costs. Despite the fact that this was not our fault, i asked whether they would be prepared to pay for the mobile kitchen as they had agreed the terms on day 1. All of a sudden, my emails and telephone calls were ignored, I began to panic as i had just under 6 months left for my wedding. Guest from abroad had already booked flights in. The next was a letter from the so called managing director, who has taken over the hotel from his dad returning my deposit and cancelling the arrangements for my wedding!!!! Not what i expected as i was expecting this to be the happiest day in my life. I called the director who refused to take my calls. My wedding had been cancelled less than 6 months before my wedding date, all photographers, child entertainers, wedding invites having gone out! I was devastated. I took Longmynd to court and the Judge found there was no contract despite the fact that I had paid a deposit and signed a contract and that Longmynd were able to cancel someones wedding 6 months before and that was okay, despite the repercussions. The managing director, Mr Chapman, was rude, unprofessional in his letter to me cancelling my wedding and had no regard to the fact that he had just ruined my wedding day. they promote it as a family hotel!! I got very ill with the trauma of it all, planning your wedding was something I had looked forward to and a jumped up idiot of a man just got out of bed one morning and simply cancelled my wedding. They accepted that the food was an essential element that I had discussed on day one, 6 months later, they decide they could not provide it and so just cancelled my wedding day without any discussion. Dont get pulled in by their offer of great service and false smiles, I did and lived to regret the day. It spoilt the happiest day of my life. The contract is not worth the paper it was on and i lost out financially by 000's as well but that was the least of my problems. Dont trust them and do not part with your money. Book your wedding were you know it will go without a hitch! On a positive note, we managed to find a chain hotel who booked or wedding for the same date, guests did not need to change flights etc and this hotel provided a wonderful service, but the views were not the same, as we overlooked a car park, but there were no decent hotels left at this point. Bal Dhaliwal and James Thomas who booked our wedding there and 6 months before our wedding date, they cancelled it!

Good Points: The friendly professional staff. The quality of the food. The decor of the dining room. The view. The swimming pool. Bad Points: Nothing. General Review: Just a very satisfactory and enjoyable visit. The atmosphere was friendly, relaxed and professional. We just booked on spec as the hotel was on our route so we were not expecting too much but were very pleasantly surprised. The building is old but has character, so don't be expecting hotel chain conformity. The staff were mainly east European but extremely well trained and supervised. The value for money was excellent as the food was plentiful and of a high quality. You just can't go wrong staying here.
