1st of February - St Brides Day

1st of February is the 32nd day of the year

St Brides Day:
This is a date of particular importance for our Irish readers, and those with Irish antecedents, for St Bride, or Bridget, or on the island of Ireland Brighid, was an early Irish saint, possibly born in Fochard daughter to a prince of Ulster. She had the honour of being baptized by St Patrick, and became the first nun in Ireland, famed for piety and soon for performing miracles. Her first cell and then nunnery the nunnery formed the focal point of the town of Kildare. Though her fame in Ireland is greater, several English churches are named for Bridget, most famously of course St Bride’s in Fleet Street.
