19th of March - St Josephs Day

19th of March is the 78th day of the year

St Josephs Day:
The St Joseph celebrated with a feast day on March 19th is the carpenter who married the Virgin Mary, and thus became in effect the step-father of Jesus, the particular date said to have been chosen as it was the saint’s birthday. St Joseph has great significance for Italians, especially Sicilians, as on that island in the Middle Ages he supposedly answered prayers to end a famine caused by drought, a good crop of broad beans saving the populace. For this reason some Britons of Italian descent mark the day through various customs – the decorating of altars with piles of food (Joseph Tables), the making of certain pastries, and wearing red. As the day falls in Lent, the food prepared (always for obvious reasons including broad beans) is without meat.
