11th of June - St Barnabas's Day

11th of June is the 162nd day of the year

St Barnabas's Day:
Barnabas, born at about the same time as Jesus, was one of the 72 disciples, and a revered member of the very early Christian Church. He was a Jewish Cypriot educated in Jerusalem – with Paul whose companion in spreading the gospel he was for a time - who went on to preach in what became Turkey. His feast day apparently marks the date of his death in Cyprus in 61AD, stoned by his Jewish enemies there.
When we used the Julian calendar his day was on or close to midsummer, and thus he became the patron saint of harvests. As this period was popular for fairs his name is associated with many such gatherings, notably in Macclesfield, the anglicised version of his name – Barnaby – generally used in that regard.
