Tyr Graig Castle is a remarkable and unique castle-hotel situated between the mountains and the sea. Only 1/2 a mile out of Barmouth town centre and on the borders of the Snowdonia National Park it offers stunning views of Cardigan Bay.
The castle was originally built in 1891 for WW Greener the famous Birmingham gunmaker and it is alleged that Mr Greener made the gun that was used by Doc Holliday in the famous "GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL". Today it still retains many of its original features and style of the Victorian era with stained glass windows, wood panelling, decorative floors and very elaborate ceilings, whilst still offering modern day comforts.
Each of the eleven bedrooms is individually decorated and furnished, with all having en-suite bathrooms. Nine are sea facing.
The restaurant is open to non-residents and is very popular with a reputation for excellent traditional British/Welsh food; wholesome and frshly-cooked. The menu is changed on a seasonal basis to make use of the very best of local fresh produce. It is therefore advisable to reserve a table when booking your room to avoid disappointment.
Tyr Graig Castle is graded by Visit Wales as a 4-Star Guest Accommodation & Restaurant.
