On the steep slopes of the magnificently wooded Heddon Valley, hidden in a spectacular setting at the end of a quarter-mile private drive, you will discover Heddon’s Gate. This is a true country house hotel, run by its owners, Anne and Eddie Eyles. It is secluded and tranquil, and is set in more than 2½ acres of its own gardens and woodland. Built as a hunting lodge in the 1890s, when the Victorian wealthy were choosing all the best sites for their country estates, the hotel is now a charming fusion of different styles. Heddon's Gate is an AA two-star Country House Hotel, with a 76% merit score. We are proud to be featured in the independent and respected Good Hotel Guide. Here our guests appreciate the relaxed and friendly atmosphere, enjoy good company and relish fine food and wine. We welcome well-behaved dogs; we normally decline to take children. The hotel has ten distinctive bedrooms, each equipped with TV, radio, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone and hot drink facilities. All bedrooms have en suite bathrooms with WC, basin and bath and/or shower. The full bar is well-stocked and the wine list carefully chosen. Eating at Heddon’s Gate is always an occasion. Start the day with a hearty English breakfast, or a lighter option if preferred. A complimentary afternoon tea is available to all our half-board guests. The main event of the day is the sumptuous five-course dinner. Savour the very best local produce, prepared to a high standard by the proprietors, who are passionate about serving good food.
