When the people of Altrincham fancy lunch in the country, they head out to the Nag's Head. And with good reason: this warm and welcoming pub offers top-notch food, both in the roomy restaurant and outside in the large garden which comes complete with children's play area. The food takes inspiration from both near (black pudding and goat's cheese stack) and far (Szechuan shredded duck in a spring roll pastry basket). And that's just the starters: mains are equally varied, from a particularly good old-fashioned steak-and-kidney pudding to porcini mushroom ravioli. If you're after something lighter, the sandwiches are thoughtfully put together using interesting breads, while the house ploughman's features local cheese and sultana marmalade. You'll come out grinning like a Cheshire cat.
