Creswell Crags is a world famous archaeological site, set in a limestone gorge with caves and lake. It is home to Britain's only known Ice Age Cave Art. This discovery is one of the most important prehistoric finds in the last decade. The art is thought to date to about 13,000 years ago and the images of birds, bison, deer and horse provide a glimpse into the rich culture and fascinating life of our distant relatives.

There is plenty to see and do here, whether you just want a picnic in peaceful surroundings, or a brisk walk through a dramatic landscape. Creswell is an ideal place for families to visit as it offers open spaces for younger children to explore, as well as the exceptional cave tours for which Creswell is renowned.

A New centre opened in 2009 houses fantastic new facilities. The exhibition spaces house state of the art displays and interactive elements to engage visitors in entertaining learning. Cave tours run on weekends and school holidays. Touring exhibitions and fun family events and run throughout the year. Please see our events leaflet or website for more information.

Creswell Crags is celebrating all things Victorian, and going back in time to the very first excavations in our Ice Age caves. Specialist lectures will look in detail at the social and scientific impacts of the early discoveries at Creswell Crags. The weekend of the 24th & 25th will see the site transformed back to the 19th Century with costumed tours and Victorians activities.
