Southport Tips
If you are interested in watching birds rather than riding roller-coasters during a stay at Southport, make sure you pay a visit to Marshside. Follow the promenade out of Southport and keep on the beach road – the A565. A couple of miles down you will see an RSPB parking area which is free to members, others pay about £2. From the car park you can see across the sands and watch the dippers feeding. You can walk around the headland on marsh ground and see other sea birds. Cross the road from the car park and follow the signs to the RSPB hide – from there you can view the birds on the inland marshes which can include avocets, lapwings, geese, swans, godwit, redshank, swallows etc depending on time of year. - Denise
