Portrush has long been a top holiday destination for visitors, and also for the people of Northern Ireland. This is a small town built on a peninsula jutting into the Atlantic on the North Antrim Coast. The coastal scenery is magnificent, with pathways leading eastward past dramatic headlands and twinkling bays to Dunluce Castle and the Giant's Causeway. The town itself boasts two long golden beaches, West Strand and East Strand, which hosts open-air dance music events. Stretching on out of town from East Strand are the sands and dunes of Curran Strand and Whiterocks Beach, with a backdrop of limestone cliffs that reveal some amazing caves, stacks and arches. Portrush is a leading surfing centre, with other outdoor activities including fishing, boating, cycling and golf: the Royal Portrush Golf Club provides one of the world's best links courses. The annual raft race and motorcycle race are enduringly popular. The resort enjoys a lively nightlife, with a variety of great restaurants, pubs and clubs. Kelly's - the country's biggest nightclub complex - is internationally acclaimed. There's family fun galore at the Dunluce Centre, Waterworld and Barry's Amusements, while fascinating local information is exhibited at The Coastal Zone and Nature Reserve.
