Visitors often remark on how different Milton Keynes is when they see our tree-lined boulevards, a clean, green environment and clean-cut modern buildings.
The town has so much to offer with one of the biggest shopping centres in the country, an indoor ski slope with "real" snow and the most successful theatre outside the West End. The nearby Theatre District offers a wide variety of eateries and clubs and there are leisure and sporting facilities to suit just about everyone.
The area is also chock full of history. Parts of the town date back to the Romans and the boundary also encompasses the six historic towns of Stony Stratford with its mainly Georgian character; Wolverton, one of the first "railway" towns; Newport Pagnell an old coaching town; picturesque Olney, famous for its pancake race and the Olney Hymns (Amazing Grace among them); Woburn Sands, on the border of the Bedford Estate and Bletchley where the renowned code-cracking centre Bletchley Park is located. There are also 13 villages, many of which are mentioned in the Domesday Book.

Milton Keynes' wonderful parks and waterways provide a landscape and environment many towns and cities would envy. Some are used for leisure purposes such as Caldecotte, used for sailing, and Willen, which is also used for water sports and has the longest cable-tow water skiing circuit in Europe. Others are preserved for wildlife and to provide oases of peace and tranquillity. The Grand Union Canal, which meanders through the town, provides a further valuable leisure facility.
