The village of Ironbridge rests easily alongside the River Severn in Shropshire and is possibly most famous for the structure after which the town is named - the ironbridge built by Abraham Darby III with the distinction of being the first cast iron bridge to be constructed in the world in 1779 and in 1986 the Ironbridge Gorge was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in recognition of its contribution to the Industrial Revolution. There is more to Ironbridge than this though, it represents a step back in history where at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum you can experience life in Victorian times for it is here at Blists Hill you can become part of Victorian life. The Blists Hill Victorian town is where you can visit a range of Victorian shops or see how the Victorians made their daily household objects, visit the blacksmith’s shop or the printers everything is an accurate representation of what life was like. The Ironbridge Gorge though is more than this, it offers some spectacular scenery and for those who prefer to enjoy local sights there are walks around and through the town that all provide glimpses of the past, a stroll along the banks of the River Severn will be rewarded with a spectacular view of the Ironbridge.
