London Heathrow Airport is the world’s busiest Airport and is situated just fifteen miles from Central London. The beginnings of the Airport in 1946 saw passengers using a large tent that was the only Terminal Building offered, March 2008 saw the opening of the impressive and futuristic Terminal 5,the amazing glass and steel structure affords fantastic views together with the latest Airport technology. Travel Links to the Airport are many, by car either the M4, A4, A30 or M25, Taxis, Buses to the Central Bus Station, High Speed Train links the Airport to Paddington, and Underground on the Piccadilly Line. For an insight into travel 1946 style there is an evocative collection of photographs and pictures on display of Airport and Passengers, the number of which has soared to 67 million in 2007. The facilities are very good, especially for Disabled Passengers, where a dedicated Help Bus for those requiring assistance with wheelchairs and luggage travelling between the Terminals is offered, summoning the bus could not be simpler just pick up the Special Bus telephone, or ask at the Information Desk. Help Points are found in the Car Parks, and main Terminal Buildings, where passengers are able to request porters or assistance. Induction Loops are spread throughout the Airport together with specially adapted seating areas and toilets. For smaller passengers there are Baby Changing and feeding facilities, plus many Restaurants and Bars offering children’s menus and highchairs. A quick visit to the Information Desk will be rewarded with colouring books and crayons, and of course there are Play Areas to enjoy. There is a vast amount of shops to explore, and Tax and Duty Free shopping to tempt, the Medical Centre is on the ground floor, and Executive and Business travellers can be well looked after in the designated Lounges.
