The village of Tiroran sits on the banks of the sea-loch, Loch Scridain, situated on the south-west side of the Isle of Mull, in the Western Isles of Scotland, 28 miles north of Tobermory. Tiroran sits at the foothills of the Munro ‘Ben More’ overlooking Loch Scridain which stretches approximately12 miles long and 2.5 miles wide, extending inland all the way to the tranquil Glen More. The village has holiday accommodation, shops and amenities and is a popular tourist destination attracting, anglers, climbers, walkers and nature-watchers. The area north of the village is known as Ardmeanach, well-known for the discovery of the ancient Macculloch’s fossil tree dating back 50 million years. Close by is The Burg, a remote area known as’ the wilderness’ with picturesque scenery due to its exposure to the Atlantic weather, spectacular views across to Ireland and the chance to see a variety of wildlife in their natural habitat including eagles, wild birds, otters and deer. This is an ideal base for touring the attractions of north-west Scotland and the Western Isles including nearby Tobermory with whiskey distillery, An Tobar Art Gallery, pottery café, the setting for ‘Balamory’ the childrens TV series, boat-tours for whale and dolphin watching and the Mull Highland Games held in July each year.
