Weston-on-the-Green is a small village in Oxfordshire, near to Bicester and some 12 miles from Oxford. The village has stocks on the green and thatched cottages. Akerman Street, two miles to the north of the village, is a Roman Road. Weston Manor is now a hotel, but the present Baronial Hall was the bailiffs’ court for the Abbott of Osney who owned the house before the dissolution of the monasteries. Local land owning families then resided at Weston Manor until 1917. The building has been a hotel since the 1940s. The village has two pubs: The Chequers and The Ben Jonson. The pub is named after the writer as he was supposed to regularly stop here on his way to Stratford upon Avon to visit his friend William Shakespeare. The Church of Saint Mary's has a tower that dates from the twelfth century, although the main church building was substantially rebuilt in 1741. Nearby is RAF Weston-on-the-Green. The station comes under the control of the nearby RAF Brize Norton and is used for parachute training. The No. 1 Parachute Training School based at RAF Brize Norton uses Weston-on-the-Green regularly as a drop zone. There is also a commercial sky-diving club based there.
