Rooskey is a lovely village, situated on the upper part of the broad, majestic Shannon. And it has the unusual distinction of being the meeting place of three counties - Leitrim, Roscommon and Longford. Rooskey is therefore an excellent base for drivers wishing to explore the sights of the three different regions. Additionally, Dublin and Donegal are both close enough for day trips. Rooskey is also an ideal destination for anglers, since the river and the nearby loughs are well stocked with coarse fish including roach, perch and bream. The harbour and marina are especially busy in the summer, with cruise vessels regularly stopping by so that passengers can sample the hospitality of the village pubs and restaurants. Outdoor activities enjoyed locally include watersports, horse-riding, pony-trekking and walking - through the countryside or along tranquil, tree-lined, riverside pathways. There's lots of good cheer to be had at the village's annual summer festival which combines musical performances with fun family activities. Rooskey's shops provide for basic necessities, although visitors will find broader shopping opportunities in Leitrim's county town of Carrick-on-Shannon, which is within half an hour's drive. Carrick also boasts a particularly scenic golf course and a wide choice of river cruises
