Bathwick is a delightful town on the banks of the River Avon connected by two bridges to the historical City of Bath. Jane Austen lived here and the ‘Jane Austen Centre’ is a permanent exhibition detailing the life and story of her family. Follow her footsteps to the ‘Sydney Pleasure Gardens’ which opened in 1795 and still has enjoyable tree lined walks. Bathwick has two churches and the monumental ‘Bath Abbey’ is close by, a trip to see the ‘Heritage Vaults’ is rewarding. ‘Sally Lunn’s Museum’ is in the oldest house, dating back to 1492 with Roman and Medieval secrets below, learn of her recipe, or if you would like an insight into American life during the 17th to 19th Century it has to be the ‘American Museum’ with a stunning collection of quilts, the most poignant was made by slaves in Texas. Or the ‘Postal Museum’ offers so much more than 1d Blacks. The wonders of ‘The Roman Baths’ showcases the amazing architectural prowess of the Romans, there is an opportunity to taste the spring waters in the ‘18th Century Pump Room’, or why not climb aboard a Punt at the historical ‘Edwardian Boating Station‘. Bathwick’s magic is everlasting.
