Gwalchmai (divided into upper and lower Gwalchmai) is a rural village on Anglesey set in a rocky landscape approx one mile from the A55 and 2 miles away from RAF Mona. The Anglesey showground is approx 1 mile east and the village contains one of Telford’s Tollhouses. The village itself is named after the C12th poet Gwalchmai ap Meilyr who, it is said, was named for his ancestor the Welsh hero Gwalchmai ap Gwyar - reputed to be the Gawain of Arthurian legend. Gwalchmai is a vibrant little village with golf courses, health clubs, and some of the best water-sports facilities in the country nearby. You'll never be short of something to do as the village is conveniently situated for access to all parts of the island. The nearby A55 also gives excellent access to the mainland and Ireland. The village has a windmill to the South and Llyn Hendref lies to the north –east. It is easy to spend a whole day exploring the countryside here but you might take to the sea as boat trips can easily be arranged. If you prefer to stay on dry land the Anglesey Sea Zoo and Plas Newydd are also close by
