Hampton Hill (once known as 'New Hampton') is a 19th Century village situated right next to Bushy Park and alongside the Longford River, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The towns of Teddington and East Molesey are a mile away respectively. Bushy Park is the second largest of the Royal Parks of London at 1100 acres in area. Hampton Hill is an offshoot from neighbouring Hampton. The Longford River is an artificial watercourse built to supply Hampton Court Palace which forms the boundary between Hampton Hill and Hampton. For over 500 years Hampton Court Palace has stood on the banks of the River Thames, boasting 6 acres of magnificent buildings and 60 acres of gardens. Hampton Hill High Street is filled with shops, cafes and 8 pubs, as well as a traditional 75-year old bakery. The High Street also stages a yearly parade before Christmas. Fulwell Golf Course lies to the north of Hampton Hill. Other nearby attractions include: Kingston Museum, built in 1904. Sandown Park and Kempton Park Racecourses are 2 miles away. When Reverand James Burrow became the vicar of Hampton, he decided that the Hampton Hill area should have its own church. St James’ was consecrated in December 1863.
