Queens Park has been regenerating rapidly in recent years. This formerly scruffy neighbourhood in north-west London has taken on a new lease of life, reflected in its flourishing shops, bars, cafés, restaurants and farmers' market. For all this, the housing remains reasonably affordable, except around the park itself where prices doubled between 2002 and 2007. The new generation of residents includes young professionals with and without families, and creative people working in the arts, media and fashion. Among them are jeweller and designer Jade Jagger and actress Thandie Newton. Queens Park retains a certain village atmosphere despite being close to central London, and its neighbours include the infinitely more expensive Notting Hill, Maida Vale and St John's Wood. Kilburn, a lively multicultural district, is also easily reached. Queens Park is home to a mosque and also to the famous Islamia school, a Muslim establishment founded by Yusuf Islam, also known as singer-songwriter Cat Stevens. At the heart of the district is Queens Park, which has won a Green Flag award every year for a decade. The park has several gardens as well as grassland, woodland, wildflower areas, children's play facilities and a pets corner, pitch and putt, and six tennis courts.
