Market Rasen is a delightful Market Town with the River Rase flowing through it on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, famous for the only race course in the county, Market Rasen Course is a national hunt Course and is worth the visit whether you back the winner or not. Maybe walking along a tree lined golf course with lovely views and the natural challenges of a river flowing through it is tempting, then don’t forget your clubs as they will be needed to play the 18 holes on offer. The interesting architecture of Victorian and Georgian houses together with the Medieval church is a pleasure whether photographing or painting, the challenge will be what to leave out, the town is worth discovering as the many interesting shops bars and restaurants on offer will tempt most wallets to open, or for Rod danglers there is fishing at Bullington Fisheries. The attractive surrounding area will please walkers and cyclists as the National Cycle Route is close, or for the inquisitive perhaps a trip nearby to an impressive 11th Century Castle there is also a chance to walk along the curtain wall, there is one of the four remaining original copies of the Magna Carta still in existence today which can be viewed in the old prison building. Or why not visit the Museum of Lincolnshire Life which has many exhibits, there is even a WW1 tank, then there is always Lincoln Cathedral, which dates back to Norman times and was built a few years after the castle by William the Conqueror. The magnificent windows in the Chapter House tells the story of the cathedral’s history, the Nave and it’s majestic splendour is a stunning site, the pure wonderment of the excellence achieved in this building will definitely haunt the thoughts of any visitor.
