Spilsby is a rural Market town positioned on the edge of the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, and is home to just over two thousand people. The town has an intriguing history dating back centuries, evidence of which can be seen with the impressive buildings across the ages, from the ancient 14th Century church that's dedicated to St James, elegant Edwardian, and Victorian houses which line the road, and the remains of an Iron Age Hill Fort that stood nearby. From its humble beginnings of sheep and agriculture production the town thrived and grew into the vibrant setting seen today with its bustling colourful market that has been taking place since the 13th Century, an abundance of shops to satisfy the hardiest of shoppers, and pleasing restaurants, bars, and cafes to try. In the 18th Century Spilsby was on the coaching route of Louth to Boston and there is still the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of earlier travellers with a visit to the charming 17th Century Coaching Inn which has stood the test of time. A stroll around the Market Square will show the Medieval Butter Cross, and striking bronze statue of the intrepid Explorer Sir John Franklin who was born here in the 18th Century.
