Died on 11th of June 1847

Born 1786. Died 1847 - English explorer.

Joined navy at age of 14, took part in Battle of Trafalgar (1805). Explored Canadian Arctic Coast. Governor of Tasmania (1834-45). In 1845 led an expedition to discover the Northwest Passage, died during this attempt. Relief expedition in 1848 found a record of the expedition proving Franklin had discovered the passage.
