Mountsorrel is a village that stands on the bank of the River Soar in Leicestershire This pretty village is best explored by taking the village tour where history unfolds from the old Coaching Inns, to the Butter Market built in 1793. Take a look at the picturesque 14th Century church of St Peter and it’s Jacobean alter. The craggy granite point of Castle Hill, above the village is all that remains of the Castle built in 1080. The Stonehurst Family Farm & Museum has a Blacksmiths Forge, a Vintage Car Museum a gift shop and for tired feet the delightful tea room. No visit would ever be complete without the captivating experience of travelling with steam overhead as you journey through the countryside on a locomotive, time it right and enjoy a Murder Mystery event, or perhaps a day out with ‘Thomas The Tank Engine’ or how about witches and wizards. With the delights of ‘The Bell Foundry Museum’ close by detailing the history of bell casting and the Foundry, or even the Ulverscroft Nature Reserve with it’s woodland and flowering meadows what more could be wished for, perhaps the gentle canal and narrow boats, well it is all here.
