Barnoldswick is an interesting old Mill town positioned at the foot of Weets Hill in the Pendle area of Lancashire, and is home to just over ten thousand people. This fascinating town has a rich industrial heritage woven throughout the lanes and streets. It dates far back in history to the Saxons and Vikings who lived here, Cistercian Monks arrived to build a monastery in the 12th Century, but left a few years later after problems with the locals. There are rows and rows of attractive mellow stone cottages and houses lining the streets, with old weaving cottages in Crow Foot Lane. The town nudges the border of Yorkshire with the Dales close by which tempts walkers and holiday makers alike with beautiful countryside all around, the Leeds and Liverpool Canal is close by and the Stock Beck flows through the town. The arrival of the Industrial Revolution changed the industry from wool to cotton which led to the growth of the town and the building of many cotton Mills; Bancroft Mill was the last Mill in operation and is now a fascinating museum. There's a fabulous choice of shops in Church Street and the pretty Town Square; there are restaurants of course and enough pubs and Inns to quench any thirst.
