The Hertfordshire village of Radlett lies in the valley of Tykes Water and is just north of London, between St Albans and Elstree and surrounded by Green Belt land. Near to the A1M, M25 and M1 and with a railway station offering frequent services into central London 25 minutes away or to Gatwick/Luton airports. As such it is a desirable place to live, with a population of about 8,000 and 7 roads that have property prices in excess of £1million! There is a high Jewish population in this large village dating back to 1453, straddling the Roman Watling Street but being mostly created in the 19th century. A German missile hit Radlett in 1943, causing much damage and 17 fatalities, but since then it has been a peaceful place. With Elstree nearby the cast of Eastenders can often be seen shopping here with the wide variety of shops. There is a good choice of restaurants and pubs along with numerous sports facilities, including tennis, squash, cricket, rugby and a Golf Centre offering a floodlit driving range, 6-hole course and open to everyone. There is a small theatre too – Radlett Centre. Accommodation is at the Red Lion Hotel on Watling Street, close to the railway station.
