The thriving village of Much Marcle is between Ledbury and Ross on Wye (7 miles to the north) in South Herefordshire. This small village is most picturesque with some half-timbered houses and makes the perfect location to stay in when visiting this area! It has 3 pubs, which also offer food – The Walwyn Arms, The Slip Tavern (so named after a landslide here in 1531) and The Royal Oak Inn. Accommodation can be found in holiday cottages Chandos Granary and Orchard Chapel; B&B at The Royal Oak, New House Farm and Church corner; with more hotels available in nearby Ledbury and Ross On Wye. Hellens is a converted barn, providing a character venue for weddings but also worth a visit to this Jacobean Manor House, which is reputed to be haunted. Also here is the church of St. Bartholomew – a 13th century home to historic carvings and a huge, hollow yew tree! Next-door to this is Mortimer’s Castle, dating from the 13th century also but only the motte remains. Much Marcle is the location of 3 cider mills, notably Weston's Cider and the multi award winning Scrumpy House restaurant. Annually in August there is Much Marcle Steam Rally and within an hour’s drive are the Cotswolds, the Welsh Borders, the Forest of Dean and Hereford cathedral.
