The village of Hook is to be found in North East Hampshire about six miles from Basingstoke and just north of Junction 5 of the M3. Hook originated from a small collection of dwellings along the roadside and owes its existence to the turnpike roads of the 18th century when, to the west of the village, a turnpike was built to aid navigation of Scures Hill to facilitate stagecoach progress through the county. There then followed the railways which local landowners campaigned for in order to more easily transport their produce to the rest of the country. In 1883 Hook railway station opened and it was around this time that the village of Hook came into being and is today as popular as it ever was. The local countryside is within easy reach whilst the motorway and rail network make this a great location for those who need to commute. Hook has plenty to offer both the resident and visitor alike a mix of the modern and the old, to encourage new businesses there is the Bartley Wood Business Park but a short trip to the town centre reveals more historic examples, have a look at the White Hart Hotel, a 15th century coaching inn which retains many of its original features. With a wide range of local facilities it is easy to appreciate the benefits of Hook
