Just off the M11 and on the border of Hertfordshire & Essex, is the fine village of Little Hallingbury, a few miles south of Great Hallingbury. The pretty village lies near Bishops Stortford, between the River Stort and Hatfield Forest (to the north and a designated Royal Hunting Forest), therefore the area has spectacular paths to explore by foot, cycling or horse riding. The church is that of St Mary the Virgin. There is much on offer here in the way of accommodation, eateries and 2 pubs, including a marina. Built in 1874, Little Hallingbury Mill is a guesthouse/restaurant today, on the banks of the River Sort and often used for conferences and weddings too. B&Bs are plentiful with Bonnington’s (grade 2 listed in landscaped gardens), Homesdale, Latchmead and George Green Farm. There is Elsenham golf centre, Mounfichet Castle, Audley End House (with one of Capability Browns most prestigious gardens) and Duxford War Museum (aircraft) close by.
